2024 Spring Concert

We were delighted to host our Spring Concert this year on Thursday 14 March.

Our Senior Concert Band kicked off the evening with the challenging piece Gaelforce. Their attention to detail and musicality was evident in their performances. Our Young Musician of the Year junior winner Rebakah Green gave a mature and musical performance of the traditional Russian piece Black Eyes. Our Junior Choir performed the iconic ‘Dance the Night’ from the Barbie movie. This was an energetic performance complete with some actions!

This was the last performance of our all-female Sax Quintet. They performed the well-known piece ‘The Pink Panther’. Our String Orchestra is made up of pupils from Year 8-14. They performed and ‘An Irish Party in Third Class’ from Titanic and ‘City of Stars’ from La La Land. The Senior Choir gave an emotive performance of ‘And Can It Be’ by Dan Forrest and a captivating performance of ‘Northern Lights’ by Ola Gjeilo. Our Brass Ensemble played ‘Liberty Bell’ by Sousa and impressed the audience with their impressive dynamic range.

Our Junior Chamber Choir love to tackle songs in different languages and this year performed the French piece ‘Vois sur ton Chemin’ from Les Choristes and the Eva Cassidy arrangement of ‘Over the Rainbow’.

The Junior Rock Group; Fusion finished the first half with the popular Beatles song ‘While My Guitar Gently Weeps’. This was a tight performance with excellent vocals by Chloe Connor and guitar solos from Finlay Moore and Neve Kerr.

Junior Concert Band is the first port of call for our young musicians. It is hard to believe when you hear them that some of them are just Grade 2! They began the first half with Crazy Train followed by ‘Defying Gravity’ from Wicked ending their set with Black Panther.

Our Chamber Choir have had an exciting year having just recently returned from Birmingham where they were placed third in the Barnardo’s National Choral Competition. They sang their two competition pieces; Daemon Irrepit Callidus’ and the beautiful and moving ‘Sure on this Shining Night’ by Lauridsen.

The Flute Ensemble gave a musical performance of ‘Music of the Night’ by Andrew Lloyd Webber before our Young Musician of the Year senior winner Megan McCloskey captivated the audience with her performance of ‘Somewhere That’s Green’ from Little Shop of Horrors.

Our Senior Rock Group; Short Notice gave an excellent performance of ‘All The Things That I’ve Done’ by The Killers with brilliant vocals from Betsy Andrews and guitar solo from Joshua Patterson.

Our Big Band never fail to disappoint, and this year was no different. The atmosphere was electric in the hall as they performed ‘We Don’t Talk About Bruno’, ‘Can’t Stop the Feeling’ and ‘Hit the Bricks’ by George Goodwin. Congratulations to Megan Diamond, Hayley Ritchie and Matthew Todd for their impressive solos.

Pupil-led rock group 4am performed ‘Stick Season’. This group have gone from strength to strength this year and raised £1000 for Stand Up to Cancer at their gig in Bangor Rugby Club. They also have started to write their own songs and are performing them at open mic nights in Belfast.

Our concert finished with our Junior and Senior Choir singing ‘Do you Hear the People Sing?’

Thank you to all our musicians, tutors and teachers for providing such an amazing night of entertainment! Particular thanks must go to Mrs McMordie, Miss Eagleson, Mr Donaghy, Mr Douglas, Mr Myles and Dr MacAtasney for all their hard work with our extra-curricular groups throughout the year. Thank you to all our staff and parents for supporting our concert.
