Regent House has a well-established musical tradition and a wide variety of choral and instrumental groups.
The Music Groups
Junior Concert Band: Mrs McMordie
Junior Concert is for our pupils who have been learning their instrument for a year. These enthusiastic young musicians attend a one hour rehearsal every week of the school year.
Junior String Orchestra: Mrs Marsden
Junior String Orchestra is for our pupils who have been learning their instrument for a year. These enthusiastic young musicians attend a one hour rehearsal every week of the school year.
Junior Choir: Mrs Mort
Junior Choir is open to all pupils in Year 8-10. The choir are currently preparing for our Carol Service and are working towards Musical Selections from Mamma Mia for our Spring Concert. The choir also have the opportunity to sing at other events throughout the year and are looking forward to carol singing in our local community this Christmas.
Junior Chamber Choir: Mrs Adgey
Junior Chamber Choir is an auditioned choir for pupils in Year 8-10. This committed group are currently working on their Christmas repertoire.
Senior Concert Band: Mr Dawson
Senior Concert Band consists of our more advanced brass, woodwind and percussion players in school, regardless of age, with the minimum standard of entry at approximately Grade 5 level. These enthusiastic young musicians attend a one and a half hour rehearsal every week of the school year. Members of this group are often selected for the Ulster Youth Orchestra, Ulster Youth Jazz Orchestra and the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain.
Senior String Orchestra: Mrs Marsden
Senior String Orchestra consists of our more advanced string players in school, regardless of age, with the minimum standard of entry at approximately Grade 5 level. Again, just like the Senior Concert Band, members of this group are often selected for the prestigious Ulster Youth Orchestra.
Senior Choir: Mrs McIvor
Senior Choir meets every Friday afternoon from 3.20-4.30. There are around 70 members in senior choir. At Christmas we perform choral extracts from Handel’s Messiah as well as Christmas repertoire such as Angels’ Carol by Rutter and A Maiden Most Gentle by Carter. We are also looking forward to performing extracts from Fauré’s Requiem at our Spring Concert in March.
Senior Chamber Choir: Mrs McIvor
Senior Chamber Choir is an accomplished group of 30 singers who meet three times a week. They are currently working on repertoire such as Sure on this Shining Night by Lauridsen and I’m a Train by Hammond arr. The Kings Singers. Senior Chamber Choir are often asked to provide music for external events and also compete in choral competitions.
Big Band: Mr Myles
Big Band is a jazz band for pupils from Year 10-14 who play trumpet, trombone and saxophone, bass guitar electric guitar and drum kit. They are in demand for external events and also perform at our school functions.
Sax Quartet: Dr MacAtasney
Sax Quartet rehearses one lunchtime a week and perform for GCSE ensembles and external events.
String Octet: Mrs Greer
String Octet rehearse one afternoon a week and perform at open night, our annual carol service and the spring concert.
Brass Ensemble
Brass Ensemble is a senior ensemble who rehearse one lunchtime a week. They perform at external events and also play the carols at our annual Carol Service.
Woodwind Ensemble
Woodwind Ensemble is a senior ensemble who rehearse one lunchtime a week. They perform for GCSE ensembles, at external events and also play at our open nights
