Careers Guidance
Our Ethos
At Regent House we recognise that impartial careers guidance and advice is key to ensuring that all of our students are fully informed of the range of career opportunities and pathways available to them. They are encouraged and supported to maximise the options open to them, and most importantly, they are empowered to make career decisions which enable them to manage their own career development successfully and confidently.
What We Do
To allow the successful delivery of a comprehensive careers programme, students are provided with individualised personal career planning and advice. Unifrog, an online platform, allows students to research, collate and store information about specific career pathways which interest them. Furthermore, they are able to build a portfolio of professional documents including a personal statement and a CV, and maintain an up to date record of all academic and extracurricular achievements; resources which will assist students with both university and job applications. Pupils have the opportunity to complete at least one period of Work Experience and the Careers department maintains close links with local employers, FE colleges and universities. These organisations not only assist with work experience and taster courses but support our biennial careers convention.
Parents
We value the major role that parents play in helping pupils decide on future study and career choices. Through information evenings, social media and regular contact, we aim to support parents and provide them with up to date knowledge of current and future career paths and opportunities, and the Head of Careers is available to meet parents as required.
UCAS
Pupils are given personal guided assistance through the UCAS process, working with pastoral tutors, academic tutors and careers advisors. We also offer Mock University interviews and MMI preparation, which draws upon the knowledge and expertise of our school community through the involvement of past pupils and parents. Attendance at the annual UCAS Exhibition and regular lunchtime drop-in sessions with representatives from a wide range of UK and Irish universities enables pupils to find out detailed information about a wide range of institutions.
General Studies
We deliver a comprehensive General Studies Enrichment programme in Year 13 focusing on the development of skills, gaining new experiences and introducing students to the UCAS application process and other options available to them post A-level.
Students are guided through the preparation and submission of applications to UCAS, employment and other post A-level destinations. They also develop an understanding of the demands and responsibilities of living away from home including managing finances, personal safety and so on.
