Ulster Schools’ Championships Swimming Results

At the Swim Ulster Schools’ Championships this weekend, our swimmers had a number of successes.

Brooke Simpson in Year 8 finished 3rd in the 12 Year Olds 50m Freestyle and 5th in the 50m Breaststroke whilst Adam Barnes (also in Year 8) came 1st in the 12 Year Olds 50m Freestyle and the 50m Backstroke.  Brooke and Adam both qualified for the Irish Minor Schools’ Championships which will be held in Dublin in February.

Madelyn Calvert in Year 10 came 5th in the Junior 100m Backstroke and 3rd in the 100m Freestyle. 

Rebecca Reid in Year 11 came 1st in both the Intermediate 100m Backstroke and the 200m Individual Medley, breaking the Ulster Intermediate record.  Megan McGonigle in Year 12 made the finals of the 100m Breaststroke and the 100m Freestyle, whilst Wiktor Kozak in Year 12 made the finals of the 100m backstroke.

In the Senior events Luke Balfour in Year 13 came 4th in the 100m Breaststroke, whilst Coby Cheetham made the finals of the 100m Butterfly.  Bethany Houston in Year 14 came 6th in the 100m Backstroke and Iain Jones finished in 6th place in the 100m Breaststroke.  Emma Reid finished 1st in the 100m Butterfly and 2nd in the 100m Freestyle.  Emma’s time of 1:00.23 in the Butterfly event broke the Ulster Senior record.

The Senior Boys’ Relay team of Sam Pyper, Iain Jones, Luke Balfour and Coby Cheetham came 5th in the Medley Team Relay and 4th in the Freestyle Team Relay.  The Senior Girls’ Relay team of Bethany Houston, Emma Reid, Megan McGonigle and Rebecca Reid came 1st in both the Medley Team Relay and the Freestyle Team Relay. 

As a result of their individual performances, Rebecca Reid and Megan McGonigle were awarded The McMahon Intermediate Schools' Cup for Girls.
