Swimming Success

At the Swim Ulster Schools’ Championships at the weekend, our swimmers had a number of successes.

On Saturday afternoon Alyssa Boyd in Year 8 finished 2nd in the 12 Year Old Girls 100m Individual Medley and 4th in the 50m Freestyle.  Sofie Heasley (also Year 8) reached the finals of the 12 Year Old Girls 50m Freestyle and 50m Breaststroke.  Joe Simpson reached the finals of the 12 Year Old Boys 50m Breaststroke and 100m Individual Medley.  Alyssa, Sofie and Joe have all qualified for the Irish Minor Schools’ Championships which will be held in Dublin in February.

Sunday was another busy day for the swimmers.  Adam Barnes in Year 9 reached the finals of the Junior Boys 100m Backstroke and the 100m Freestyle, whilst Naeve Pountney in Year 9 reached the finals of the Junior Girls 100m Backstroke and the 100m Freestyle.  Brooke Simpson reached the final of the Girls 100m Breaststroke.

The Junior Girls’ Relay team of Brooke Simpson, Alyssa Boyd, Cassie Huddleston and Naeve Pountney just missed out on a medal, finishing in 4th place in the Medley Team Relay.

Rebecca Reid in Year 12 came 1st in both the Intermediate 100m Backstroke and the 200m Individual Medley.  Rebecca’s time of 1:22.25 in the 200m Individual Medley broke the Ulster Junior record.

In the Senior events Luke Balfour in Year 13 made the finals of the 100m Breaststroke.

Well done to all swimmers on a fantastic set of results!
