Ulster Schools’ Championship 2018

Thirty-four Regent athletes competed at the Ulster Schools’ Championship at Antrim Forum on Friday and Saturday (18th and 19th May). The sun was shining and the athletes enjoyed the buzz and excitement which surrounded the stadium. For many pupils this was their first experience of the Ulster Schools’ Championship and I am delighted to report that 5 successfully qualified for the Irish Schools’ and we won 7 medals in total. Our Senior team showed their quality with every athlete picking up a medal. Below is an overview of all the results:

David Clarke, Benjamin Hein and Jonny Lucas competed in the 100m and just missed qualification for the final. Katie McKenna and Madelyn Calvert failed to make the final of the 300m Hurdles, both ran good races despite this being only their second time to complete this event.
Robbie Hammond finished 4th in the IB 400m Hurdles and demonstrates good potential in this event.

The Mini team- Cody McCormick, Oliver McBride, Alfie Houston and David Clarke finished 5th in the relay final. This is a very promising team, with Alfie Houston stepping into the team at the last moment. I hope with more training these boys can contend for a medal next season.
The Minor team- Alex Jellie, Ben Hein, Caleb Lowe and Evan McClean failed to qualify for the finals after a poor second change over.
The Junior Team- Jacob Miller, Alex Shaw, Joe Hopes and Jonny Lucas finished 6th in the final.

Well done to all our athletes who competed, the school is immensely proud of their achievements.
