Rebecca in the World Schools’ Swimming Championships

At the weekend Rebecca Reid (Year 12) took part in the 2018 International School Sport Federation World Schools’ Games Gymnasiade in Casablanca, Morocco.  This is the first time that Ireland has entered a team in the swimming championships of the multi-sport event.  Rebecca was part of the Irish team that returned with an outstanding 13 medal haul.  Six golds, five slivers and two bronze medals saw the eight-strong team finish second on the medal table.

In the individual events Rebecca finished 4th in the Female 50m Backstroke and made the 100m Backstroke final, but withdrew for the 200m Individual Medley straight after.  Rebecca achieved a silver medal in the 200m IM in 2:19.58.

In the Female 400m Freestyle Relay Rebecca helped to take the team’s first gold of the meet in a time of 3:50.38.  She also took part in the Mixed 400m Freestyle Relay who were to clinch a tightly fought bronze medal in 3:40.52.

Well done to Rebecca on a fantastic set of results!
