Young Musician of the Year

On Thursday 27 February five junior finalists and five senior finalists competed to win a £100 bursary towards their music lessons or sheet music.

Jonathan Rea, Creative Director of New Irish Arts and former Head of Music of Bangor Grammar School and past pupil of Regent House adjudicated this event. He gave excellent feedback to our musicians and encouraged them to continue to develop their musical skills and reach their potential.

Isobel Myles won the junior final with Ruben Carver being awarded runner-up. Jack Myles won the senior final with James McNinch being awarded runner-up. String Ensemble opened the evening with beautiful performances of Hallelujah by Leonard Cohen and Vortex by Robert Longfield. Big Band closed the evening with energetic and dynamic performances of Respect, The Chicken and The Jazz Police featuring solos from James McNinch (sax), Tom Myles (sax), Cameron Shaw (trombone) and Joshua Hill (trumpet).

Thank you to Jonathan Rea, our accompanists Noel Williamson and Gary Myles and everyone in the music department for making this night a success.
