Soul-be selected for NI Junior Taekwondo Team
Congratulations to Soul-be Courtney was selected to represent the Northern Ireland Junior National Taekwondo Team at the WITC Professor Chang Ung Cup in Glasgow on 17th October 2021. This was the first face to face competition since the first lockdown in early 2020.
Soul-be was competing in her first black belt (1st Dan) junior competition. She spent the morning and afternoon coaching and mentoring the more junior members of the team as they competed in the coloured belt categories. One of the parents took to social media to thank her stating “A special thank you to Soul-be for putting the kids through their paces, calming nerves and doing a super job looking out for them on and off the matts - you were brilliant”.
She got her own competition underway at 1730hrs. This commenced with the Poomse (Patterns) category where she was up against tough competition from the outset. Soul-be kept her discipline and composure to progress through the rounds to win gold in the final.
She was immediately called for her Kyorugi (Sparring) competition where she faced off against some experienced competitors. Soul-be had been working hard during lockdown to improve her fitness, technique and mental strength which paid off with her winning her matches to take another gold medal.
She then competed in the special technique section placing second after some tough competition.
She was proud to have won 2 gold medals
The NI team returned with over 30 medals during the course of the event. She is proud to be part of such a successful team and is grateful for the support from her coaches at UKTC Northern Ireland.
