Regent pupils excel on the track

Despite Covid interrupting the Schools’ Athletics Track and Field season for a second year in a row, I am delighted to report that some of our best sporting stars were able to show their dedication and talent in the Club competitions this summer.

The Northern Ireland Championships took place at the start of July and the following pupils competed:

U14-

Mason McCreery (Loughview AC) won the U14 200m in 26.51 and took bronze in both the 80m and 800m, demonstrating his versatility on the track!

Zara Steele (North Down AC) finished 7th in the 200m final, and 6th in the Long Jump with a jump of 3m98.

U15-

Jayden Booth (Loughview AC)continued to dominate, winning 3 titles in the 100m (11.81) 200m (23.93)and Long Jump (5m70). Jayden is currently ranked 23rd in the UK for the 100m, 12th in the 200m and 6th in the Long Jump. ⭐️

U17-

Kyle Thompson (Loughview AC) took a well deserved title in the 3000m in a personal best time of 9.04.93. Kyle is a great example of how hard work and dedication pays off.

The All Ireland Championships took place in August at Tullamore. Unfortunately Mason was not able to attend the competition.

Jayden showed his class by winning  THREE GOLD medals and claiming the All Ireland Titles. What an amazing achievement! Jayden was invited to compete in the Belfast International Meet on the 11th September and finished in 3rd place in a highly contested race, in a personal best time of 11.61. Well done Jayden!

Kyle Thompson enjoyed his first experience at Tullamore, finishing 7th in his race with a time of 9.14. This success earned Kyle his first Ulster Representative vest, competing in the 3000m at the Schools’ Interprovincial in Santry on the 11th September. Kyle ran an excellent race, showing great guts and determination to gain a silver medal and smashing his personal best in a time of 8.42. This time has earned Kyle his selection for the Irish Team at the Schools’ International in Derbyshire on the 25th September.

Lauren Taylor competed in the Lagan Valley Young Athletes Meet in June, clocking a time of 5.36 in the 1500m.

Rudy Mayne has been busy running regular Parkruns and 5K races. Rudy placed a very impressive 21st in the U17 British and Irish Mountain Running Championship.

Mason McCreery also competed at the Belfast International Competition in the U15 800m with a personal best time of 2.15.41.

Congratulations to you all. Hopefully, we will see our athletes competing in a Regent vest this season.
