Lewis takes part in Tri-Nations Cup

Lewis Thompson who was recently selected by the N Ireland academy performance sailing squad headed off last weekend to compete in the Tri-Nations Cup taking place in Scotland.

N Ireland, Scotland and Wales each selected 8 of their best under 18 sailors for some training sessions and then individual racing. Unfortunately, the first day of actual sailing was cancelled with heavy winds and rain so the squads were only able to do land training. Thankfully the weather was much better on Sunday so the racing went ahead.

Lewis came a credible 11th overall. Scotland won by a fine margin with N Ireland a close second.

It was a great experience for Lewis and the N Ireland team, to sail in a different venue and make some new friends. They are all looking forward to next year when the Tri-Nations Cup will be held in N Ireland.
