We are delighted that Regent House has been selected to take part in The Rivers of Hope project in conjunction with the British Council and the Thames Festival Trust to develop an artwork that will be printed on a flag to be included in the Queens Platinum Jubilee celebrations.
We are one of only 72 schools to be selected throughout the UK. This Arts-based learning programme has strong climate change and environmental themes. 9H will work with Artist Conor McGinley and Mrs McCullough to investigate the theme of local rivers and waterways to produce work both individually and collectively to produce a final design for a 1.5mx1.5 flag which will be on W1 Curates digital screens across the country for four days and will be included in the Queens platinum Pageant before going on display for a month in the Rivers of the World exhibition.
This is a two-year programme which will also provide opportunities to forge links with an overseas school to develop curriculum related projects.
Next, in December 2021 the Year 13 Art and design A Level pupils visited the Royal Ulster Academy Exhibition at the Ulster Museum, Belfast. They enjoyed a tour of the Art work and an educational talk by Maggie Bowen. They selected their favourite pieces of work to inspire development of ideas in their coursework portfolios.
Also in December 2021, the Year 14 A Level students worked with Artist Robert Peters to learn the specialist printmaking technique, Dry point printmaking. They enjoyed a full day printing and producing some outstanding results for their portfolios.
