Regent House Young Musicians of the Year!

On Wednesday evening we held our annual Young Musician of the Year competition. We had over twenty pupils audition to win a place in our final.

Our four finalists were Rebekah Green (Year 8), Chloe Connor (Year 10), Luke McMordie (Year 10) and Ethan Lappin (Year 10). Rebekah opened the evening with a mature performance of Intermezzo from Háry Janos by Kodály showing excellent musicianship for a Year 8 violinst. Chloe performed her own song ‘Hollow’ and Ethan played a Grade 6 flute piece called ‘Bats in the Belfry’. Our winner was Luke McMordie who gave an assured and musical performance of ‘Mindsweeper’ on drum kit.

The standard of our senior final was very high. Oliver Stevenson gave a poised performance of ‘Where’er You Walk’ by Handel and Matthew gave an expressive performance of Chopin’s Waltz in B minor. Our winner was Izzy Myles who gave a mature and polished performance of Arnold Cooke’s Sonata in Bb for clarinet and piano.

Well done to our finalists who each win £100 towards sheet music! Thank you also to Jonathan Rea for judging the competition and providing the pupils with constructive feedback.
