International Call Up for Matthew

Continuing a number of successes for our footnalling students, Matthew McCann (Year 10) has been selected to represent Northern Ireland at the end of May in the Den Bosch International football tournament. The tournament is expected to showcase high levels of talent which will include prestigious teams such as Manchester United’s U14 team.

In preparation for the tournament Matthew has been participating in weekly training sessions with the IFA JD National Performance Programme at Stormont, competing in regional games and recently helping his squad to secure a 4:2 win over a very strong and previously undefeated Irish side Shamrock Rovers.

This season has also proved very successful at a club level for Matthew and his team Glentoran, who have experienced several successes this year including winning the Belfast Cup 2022, the Craigavon cup in 2022, finalists in the SuperCupNI 2022 and National League champions in May 2023.
