Primary School Music Workshop

On Wednesday 12th June, the Music Department at Regent House welcomed 69 pupils from seven local primary schools to take part in a music workshop. The pupils ranged from P5 to P7 who had reached at least Grade 1 on their instruments.

The day kicked off with an energetic performance of Waka Waka, followed by a rhythmic activity called ‘Feel the Beat’. After break, the pupils split into smaller groups for a more focused rehearsal, working on the three pieces they would perform later in the day: ‘Crazy Train’, ‘Defying Gravity’, and ‘Black Panther’. They came together for a final group rehearsal before lunch. The students truly excelled, playing the pieces with accuracy and style, but the greatest achievement was everyone making it to the end, and at the same time! With 90 musicians all playing together for the first time, this was no mean feat!

After lunch, family and friends came to watch the concert. The pupils showcased the music they had learned throughout the day, including ‘Twinkle Twinkle’, which was performed in a variety of ways such as staccato, legato, pizzicato, and with varying dynamics. We ended the day with a vote to decide which piece would be performed as the concert finale. This year, ‘Black Panther’ emerged as the clear favourite.

Well done to all the pupils who participated. Mastering and performing four pieces in such a short time was an impressive achievement. Special thanks must go to the Primary School Music Coordinators who arranged for their pupils to attend, as well as the Year 11 pupils who volunteered their time during the day, greeting everyone, and capturing photos and videos of the event. Their contributions were greatly valued.
