Netball Report: Regent vs. Friends (Senior Squad)

The Senior Squad had a tremendous victory against Friend’s school. The team started off the first quarter with first centre pass – an excellent advantage. Our pace and control took the opposing team by surprise and after the first quarter the score was 8-3. Going into the second quarter the opposing team placed a lot more pressure on the shooters: Jemma Thompson and Chloe Lennon. Despite this we still were ahead, with Joanna Cotter and Sophie Laughlin working tirelessly in the defensive circle, placing the same, if not more pressure on the opposing attack.

In the third quarter it became very tight. There were many interceptions and conversions from both sides which chopped the pace, but our centre Anna Barr had firm control of the whole game along with Sophie Thomas, Aisling Rafter and Natalie McMaster communicating effectively to ensure every centre pass was taken strongly and used for a goal. At the start of the final quarter the scores were almost equal with 15-13 lead from Regent. Both teams came out fighting for every ball. Consistent efforts from the defence allowed more conversions, and amazing coordination around the shooting circle from the attack utilised these conversions to goals, making the final result a 22-18 win for Regent. Well done to Jemma for getting Player of the Match. Jemma and the shooters were outstanding during the entire game; however the in-game intelligence, consistent efforts, and positive vibes from the whole team should be commended. Well done girls – next stop: round three of the Cup!
