Swimming Success

The Swim Ulster Schools’ Championships were held on Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th October and the Regent swimmers performed very well over the 2 days against the best swimmers in Ulster.

On Saturday our Year 8 swimmers had a number of successes. Naomi Smyth reached the final of the 12 Year Olds 50m Freestyle and came 1st in the 50m Backstroke. The 12 Year Old Girls’ Relay team of Holly Wilson, Amelie Tait, Naomi Smyth and Zara Steele finished 3rd in the Medley Team Relay and 2nd in the Freestyle Team Relay.

Holly, Naomi, Zara and Evie Martin all qualified for the Irish Minor Schools’ Championships which will be held in Dublin in February.

On the second day of the championships Kiera Aiken came 3rd in the Junior 100m Breaststroke. Alyssa Boyd reached the final of the Junior 100m Backstroke, finishing in 4th place. Naeve Pountney in Year 11 reached the finals of the Intermediate 100m Backstroke. Whilst Adam Barnes in Year 11 came 2nd in both the Intermediate 100m Backstroke and 100m Butterfly.

The Junior Girls’ Relay team of Alyssa Boyd, Kiera Aiken, Megan Diamond and Megan McBride narrowly missed out on a medal, finishing in 4th place in the Medley Team Relay and 6th in the Freestyle Team Relay.

Year 8 swimmers Oliver Dempsey, Aaron Haire and Finlay Mayne all swam well in their individual events and relays.
